Butterfly Awards 2015

Emily's Star was extremely lucky to have been shortlisted twice for the 2015 Butterfly Awards & our very own Darcy shortlisted also....
We came away with no awards on the evening but was honoured to be shortlisted against some amazing charities, Friends of Serenity who took away the cherished keepsake award & Kicks Count (Count the Kicks) who took away the award for most media impact.
Our founder Katie was delighted to present the award for the 2015 Bereavement Worker to Emma, we sponsor this award due to the amazing care Katie received from our local bereavement midwife Tracy Rae.
Emma was nominated by an amazing lady who was supported by Emma during a Trisomy 18 diagnosis & once we learnt of this it made the award even more special.

40 "Parent Packs" delivered to MKGH
After our LeapPad delivery in February, Ward 5 (The Children's Ward) had asked to us supply them with parent packs.
Parents packs are a small bag of toiletries which are given to parents who have an unexpected over night stay. Many of the families under the care of the nursing team we support find themselves in hospital a lot & sometimes it is unexpected. The nurses had learned about our Emily's gift neonatal boxes which provide essential toiletries for mum & baby when a mother goes into premature labour & this is where the idea came from for the parent packs for Ward 5. We have successfully provided over 400 NNU boxes since 2012 & they knew that we would be able to manage supplying a regular amount of packs to the ward for years to come. In March 2015 we delivered our first 40 packs, 20 for ladies & 20 for men. |

Each family was given £1,000 worth of gift vouchers to use at any Centre Parcs in the UK.
Please see below some of the photos from the day.

Frozen Disco - In aid of Rhiley sells out!

The people of Milton’s Keynes came out in their hundreds last week to support what turned out to be a hugely successful event organised by local charity Emily’s Star & Corina's MK and held at the city’s popular 360 Play children’s play centre.
The event truly showed what can be achieved when organisations within the local community work together and it was a case of ‘all hands to the pumps’ when Emily’s Star decided they wanted to hold a fund raising event on behalf of two very deserving little girls.
Along with volunteers and fundraisers from the charity and other contributing local companies, staff at 360 Play jumped into action to organise a special disco evening in record time, themed on the massively popular Disney film ‘Frozen.’
Over 400 visitors attended and tickets sold out in just three days.
The event also featured a range of stalls and various other activities, such as face painting and the chance to have fun on all the different play elements within the centre, while youngsters attending all dressed up as their favourite’ Frozen’ characters.
The disco was a massive hit and we raised over £1,500 in total for two deserving little girls, Rhiley B, who has terminal childhood cancer, and her sister Lily.
“The Emily’s Star tombola alone raised £200 and special mentions must go to 360 Play, Corinas MK, Oh What A Night Disco, Stylish Events and Sweet Tastic for their contributions, and to all stall holders.

When Eva met Peppa Pig
On the 6th September we met one of the most beautiful, polite & adorable little girls, Eva.
Eva is 2 years old and has recently had the devastating diagnosis of Neuroblastoma Stage 4 Cancer. Peppa Pig & #teamemily travelled to Basildon to surprise her.... We took a BIG bag of goodies including a peppa pig phone & a medicine kit both of which were her favourites. We also gave Eva's mummy vouchers for Peppa pig world so when she's feeling up to it they can go & see Peppa again.
