Emily's Star funds new initiative for MK Hospital NNU
There was huge excitement on Wednesday 20th June at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust., as we launched an app that allows parents of babies in our local Neonatal Unit to keep in touch even when they are not in the hospital.
Milton Keynes Hospital are the first hospital in the south east to introduce vCreate, which has been funded 100% by Emily’s Star.
The App has been applied to the iPads already donated by us in November and this additional application will cost us £5,000 annually!
It allows nurses to record video diaries for parents and send them to their smartphones over a secure link.
The initiative is NHS approved!
Lead nurse Karen Rice says: ‘Having a baby in our neonatal unit is an incredibly worrying and emotionally draining time. Knowing they can see their baby when they can’t get to hospital themselves provides additional support and can help to reduce anxiety.’
Darcy, Trustee of Emily’s Star added: ‘We felt this was a really important service for parents and we have funded it so that it could be free to both the hospital and to parents.’

Colin runs for Emily's Star
After last years Silverstone Half, I was not going to do another half. But loosing nearly 3 stone in weight I decided to do the Winter half, which I did in a pb by 19 minutes.
I was running on a Sunday morning step up around Furzton Lake, and kept encouraging a girl with trisomy 18 on her T shirt. I ended the run by staying with her to complete a 10k. I think she done it 5 minutes quicker than ever before. I hope this was the moment when she knew she could run.
Later I found out that she was Katie Elmer, the mother of Emily. I have followed the brilliant work that she and her wonderful helpers have done in Emily’s memory ever since.
I have decided to run the Liverpool Half (pity it’s not the Everyon Half) on 20th May to raise if possible, 10 boxes for premature babies.

Thank you so much for such as wonderful evening! The kids loved swimming so much and we’re so grateful as we just cannot access activities like this usually. Being able to come to these events with an environment that’s less stressful and more suitable and adjusted for Aidan allows him and Bella to access so so much more! 💖💖💖
