Bereavement Support
Our bespoke bereavement support service starts long before the service is needed, we pride ourselves on gaining a seamless rapport with our families which enables us to deliver critical support then it is needed the most.

Having gained a trusted relationship with our families we ensure they are never left alone to face one of the most challenging times of their lives.

We have a trusted support network and work with outside organisation to ensure families are kept up to date with the process and given ongoing support for as long as they need it.

In partnership with Milton Keynes University Hospital we have created & developed a bereavement box. The box contains information for support networks, information of next steps & helpful advice needed after the death of a child. The boxes have been created to bridge a gap within bereavement support services in Milton Keynes.

Alongside these boxes we are also providing the children's wards with purple butterfly magnets, these are designed to be used on the patient board, a magnet is placed upon a child who has experienced a bereavement, this could be a parent or sibling, this alerts staff.

We are also providing staff members with Butterfly badges, these badges will be given to staff members who are able to offer bereavement support to a family or another staff member if needed.

Becky, one of the bereavement support team at MKUH has told us;
"The boxes give parents & carers regardless of cause of death the correct signposting to services available to them. It also allows us as staff to keep in touch with parents by keeping a log of who we have given a box to & therefore giving us the opportunity to contact them to make sure they are receiving the support they need.

The aim of the boxes is to educate staff that every death is different, the boxes can be tailored to suit each family by adding or removing relevant leaflets & booklets.

The care previously was next to nothing with no real set process, these boxes along with the purple butterfly additions will help to bridge the gap in NHS care on the children's ward at Milton Keynes Hospital"
For our registered families we also provide them with the following physical mementos:

A real accredited star, we give the family a wooden plaque with the stars coordinates on.

We also where possible have a finger print taken of their child & we turn these into silver objects such as necklaces, keyrings & bracelets. The families are given the original print so they are able to order more if they wanted.
As a charity we are passionate about ensuring the best bereavement support is given to anyone who looses a baby or child in Milton Keynes. We will continue to bridge gaps where they are found to ensure no family is alone.

- Grief has no limits and neither does our support.
